Types of Rubber Flooring

  • Penny dot / round stud rubber flooring – the classic studded pattern, non-slip and easy to sweep. 2mm–6mm thick, 1m to 2.2m wide.
  • Checker plate rubber flooring – multi-directional grip for ramps, decking, steps and high-traffic walkways.
  • Diamond tread flooring – chemical and oil resistant, ideal for workshops and commercial kitchens.

Rubber Flooring Rolls or Tiles?

Rubber flooring rolls give a near-seamless finish over large areas and can be trimmed on site with a sharp knife and straight edge. Interlocking tiles are thicker, quicker to lay in awkward rooms and can be lifted and replaced individually if damaged.

Rubber Flooring Thickness Guide

  • 2mm–3mm – light-duty walkways, vans, shop floors, worktop covers
  • 4mm–6mm – garages, workshops, commercial kitchens, general heavy-duty use
  • 8mm–12mm – gyms, fitness studios, kennels and impact areas
  • 16mm–18mm – interlocking tiles for weights areas, garages and play spaces

Rubber Flooring FAQs

Is rubber flooring waterproof?

Yes. Rubber does not absorb water, so rubber flooring is suitable for wet areas, garages and outdoor use, and can be wiped or hosed clean.

Can rubber flooring be laid on concrete?

Yes. Rolls and tiles can be loose-laid on clean, level concrete, timber or existing hard floors. For a permanent fix, use our rubber flooring adhesive.

Do you cut rubber flooring to size?

Yes – most rubber flooring rolls are sold by the linear metre, so you only pay for the length you need. Full 10m rolls are also available.

Is delivery free?

Yes. Delivery is free on every order to UK addresses, and orders are dispatched within 24 hours. If you're outside the UK, email sales@expressmatting.co.uk for a shipping quote before you order.

Can you cut it to size?

Many of our rolls are sold by the metre and cut to the length you choose. See cut lengths under 10m, or call 01744 520 110 about other sizes.

How do I choose the right thickness?

Thicker rubber absorbs heavier impacts. For free weights and racks, most customers choose 16–18mm tiles or mats; for cardio areas and workshops, 3–10mm rolls are usually enough. See our thickness guide and calculator.
